Yahoo price retrieve fussy

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby RonB » Wed Jul 26, 2023 7:00 am

Mark,
I think it started Monday. When I do a yahoo price retrieve for my portfolio it pauses on the cookies and crumb popup and eventually moves on by skipping the first 10 prices of stocks. The rest retrieve just fine. I can do a historical price retrieve and the first 10 stocks update just fine.

Something to look at when you get home from vacation.

Unfortunately it sounds like something has broken between FM and Yahoo even for US connections.

I’ll be back on August 4th and will investigate then. I apologize for the inconvenience.
Thanks,
Mark

Mark --

Another financial investment product that I use, XLQ2 (http://www.qmatix.com), which is an Excel Add-In that allows me to do all sorts of data retrieves for stocks, etfs and mutual funds, including intraday, historical, etc.

He did an update to his software on 26 May 2023 (v 23.4) and 1 June 2023 (23.4a) with the following comment regarding Yahoo:

"23.4a - New Yahoo preference settings to ignore pre / post market data.
23.4 - Yahoo has disabled their interface for day data due to licensing from their data providers. They indicate that they are looking to acquire other licenses and the possibility of a new api service, which I will look at supporting if and when available.
This version continues to support yahoo day data but through a different interface which remains active. It is slower and contains less data so hopefully is not impacted by the new restrictions."

On 21 July 2023, he released another update with these comments on Yahoo:
"As Yahoo continues to disable any remaining interfaces for day data, Yahoo as a day source has now been disabled in xlq. You should replace it with their historic data, which remains unaffected and / or any of the other sources supported through xlq"

Only if they announce a new service, subscription or otherwise could it again be supported."

So it sounds like it is definitely Yahoo....

Thanks,

I've come up with an oddball temporary workaround, that works for me in the US. Since only the first ten prices are not updating, I made the first ten stocks/funds in my portfolio investments that I keep track of for historical return purposes but are not actively watching. They are usually at the bottom of my portfolio. So now when I retrieve prices it pauses and skips the first ten and then updates all the rest that I am watching.

Of course using the historical price retrieve works just fine (for now) for updating current prices.

Yahoo USA seems to be skipping the first 20 price requests now.

Hello,

We have just released an update to fix Yahoo. Please use "Help / FM on the Web / Check for Updates..." to download quote module 584.

Please note, this will not fix Yahoo for connections coming from within Europe. If you are within Europe you will need to use a different server, or access Yahoo through a VPN connection to another country, like the US.
Thanks,
Mark

The functionality of retrieving from Yahoo in Europe has been restored. Select "Help / Fund Manager on the Web / Check for Updates..." from within Fund Manager 2022 or 2020. For more details, see this announcement.
Thanks,
Mark

I did a Yahoo price retrieve today. At the end of the price retrieve it always lists a batch of at least 42 symbols that were not retrieved. Today I noticed that "Cookies and Cream" was listed. I do not have an investment with this name. Is this some kind of a worm or virus?

Hi janfl133,

No, that is normal operation of the Yahoo server, it needs to get "Cookie and Crumb" before making requests.
Thanks,
Mark
