Problem with transfer to new machine

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby Alexanderfrood » Thu Mar 23, 2023 9:52 am

My FM version is 2020.16.100, quote module 577. I did a backup of my portfolio, transfered it to the new machine, and then downloaded the same version of FM onto the new machine and did a restore. Seemed to work OK but decided to check.

I ran a retrieve price on both machines. The old machine downloaded the prices for shares and unit trusts. However, the new machine only downloaded the shares, not the unit trust prices. Everything seems to be exactly the same in both versions of the program. I use Yahoo UK & Ireland for the share prices and Morningstar UK Unit Trusts for the unit trust prices.

The old machine is Windows 10 whereas the new machine is Windows 11, not that I can see how that makes any difference. Any ideas or suggestions gratefully received.

Hi Alexanderfrood,

Did you do a "Help / FM on the Web / Check for Updates..." on your new computer after installing FM? I would double check that you have the same quote module on both computers. If so, and the problem persists, take a look at "Help / Logs / Price Retrieve..." to verify what was retrieved. If you still have problems, you can send me both log files, one from the old, and one from the new PC, and I can take a look.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks for the quick response. Yes, I did the update check and both are using the same version and module. I have uploaded the two files - one from the old computer and one from the new.

Regards

Peter

Hi Peter,

Interesting... If you attempt to retrieve only F00000PIIA by itself by right mouse clicking on it, and choosing "Retrieve Selected Prices", does that work? If not, please send me the log file "Help / Logs / Price Retrieve (Detailed)...".

If you use Edge to go here:

https://www.morningstar.co.uk/uk/funds/ ... F00000PIIA

Can you see that page okay?
Thanks,
Mark

No, I cannot download either all in one batch or singlarly.

Yes, I can see the JPM page on Morningstar OK.

Can't upload the detailed files as they are too big. I could email them to you if that is easier?

Regards

Peter

Hi Peter,

If you retrieve only that 1 investment, the log file should be much smaller. If that is still too big, I've just now sent you an email, which you can respond to with the log file attached.
Thanks,
Mark

The email I sent to you bounced back. It appears the email on your forum account isn't valid anymore?
Thanks,
Mark

Sorry, I thought you meant the whole report not just that one holding!

Files attached. I'll PM you with my current email address.

I think it must have been a problem with Morningstar, as the prices have now been updated and the old and new machine portfolios agree!

Hurrah!

Sorry to have wasted your time. Thanks for the help.
