Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby dellwo » Sun Apr 19, 2009 10:54 am

I'm trying to create a sub-portfolio for my American Funds retirement account. I finally found the fund number and figured out the user id is <Fund#>,<SSN> with the brackets. It seems to login but "fails to retrieve portfolio". I've tried several formats for the Account Number field. With and without bracket, dashes etc.

Any tips?
Thanks, Joe

Hi Joe,

Our tips page:

http://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/tint ... ican_Funds

mentions the user ID is:

<fundnumber>,<accountnumber>

Maybe the accountnumber is the same as the SSN?

Do you get any errors when retrieving? If you're not sure of the account number you can leave it blank. When Fund Manager connects to the server and logs in, it requests a list of account numbers for that login. It will present you with that list if one of the account numbers does not match your recorded account number.
Thanks,
Mark

I just get "Failed to Retrieve Portfolio".
I've been using the SSN for the account number.

I just tried leaving it blank but got the same error.
I'm not positive about the account number. The only possibilities on the statements are PlanID and Participant SSN. I can't find any other possible numbers.

Hi dellwo,

Do you have other accounts at any other brokerages that retrieve okay? If you look at the log files, do you see anything that might shed some light on what the problem is? You can find information on the log files at the bottom of this page:

http://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/tintrtv.html

If you'd like, you can mail us those log files, and we'll take a look.
Thanks,
Mark

It works for Fidelity, ETrade, TRoweprice, Vanguard...

I don't see anything in the logs.
I'll PM you with the files.

Thanks, Joe

Hi Joe,

Received your log files, thanks. The problem is that you have the angled brackets in your user ID. Instead of:

<aaa>,<bbb>

you should just have it like this:

aaa,bbb

You don't want angled brackets in there. Those are just in our tips page, as something that surrounds a variable.
Thanks,
Mark

I added those because without them it said "signon invalid". It seemed to get further with the brackets added.

So, I still don't know what login information it requires. I can log in to the website fine. I guess I'll just do FM manually.

Thanks, Joe

Hi Joe,

With the angled brackets it is causing the request to become incorrectly formatted. The OFX format uses angled brackets, as it is an XML formatted file. Adding angled brackets to your user ID makes it an invalid request, and you're not even getting a login attempt. (Fund Manager should really escape those angled brackets when sending the request, but it isn't currently.) I would suggest contacting American Funds and asking them for help on what your user id should be to retrieve transactions. It may very likely be different than your login credentials for their web server. They are 2 different servers.
Thanks,
Mark
