Accounting method

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby FolkeLJ » Sat May 09, 2020 12:49 am

How do I change the default accounting method such that all past and future positions are accounted using average cost without doing it manually for every single position?

Thanks.

Hi FolkeLJ,

The accounting method is a property of each investment. Go to "Investment Properties... / Other / Accounting Method:". Accounting methods are properties of the investment, so will apply to all transactions in that investment. You don't set the accounting method on a per-transaction basis.

You can also specify what the default setting is for any new investments you create. See "Options / General Preferences... / Other / Default Accounting Method for New Investments". This will change what the default is for new investments, but doesn't change the current property of all your existing investments. There is no option to globally change all existing investment properties for this. You can however when running a report, choose whatever accounting method you want. You can either pick to report using a specific accounting method, or whatever accounting method is assigned to each investment.
Thanks,
Mark
