old backups and new .dats

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby don4665 » Mon Jan 27, 2020 8:59 am

i've been updating some portfolios that have the same securities in mulitiple portfolios. the security .dat files are now dated in Jan 20. I have old backups (File, backup) dated in Nov '19. If I restore (file, restore) will that overwrite the newer .dat files? Is the best way to copy the Jan '20 .dats somewhere safe, then restore (file, restore) the old portfolios and after that copy the new Jan '20 .dat files back to where they were?

Hi don4665,

It is up to you, as when you restore you will be presented with a list of everything included in the backup, and you can choose what to restore. You can restore only selected items. Just use "File / Restore..." to pick a *.FMB file, and you'll see this dialog. It doesn't just immediately restore everything without you getting to select first.
Thanks,
Mark
