Retrieving Historical Prices (Canada Stockwatch 3M Historica

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby jwythe@shaw.ca » Tue May 01, 2018 2:12 am

Something has changed since the last time I retrieved historical prices in early March.

First I go the the message that not fund where selected for update.
When I went to check the server that was set on Options, it was empty.

When I set it to Canada Stockwatch (3M Historical) it does not ask me for date range.

All other Historical Servers do, but none of the other seem to have the funds I am looking for.

I believe the list of Servers has changed. I can't remember for sure, but I think it used to just be 3M Historical.

I am running 2018.15.3, quote version 530. I started out today with 2018.15.2, not sure what the previous quote module was, but I did update it today.

Any ideas?

John

Looking at a backup it appears I was using (GOOGLE-HIST-MUTUALS)
So that explains what changed, as GOOGLE Server no longer work or available :(

So now the question is where to get historical data for the funds I used to be able to get and/or why doesn't the server in question work properly.

Hello,

Yes, all of the Google servers recently changed, and were no longer usable by Fund Manager. We had to remove them. The Canada Stockwatch servers are for Canadian stocks/funds, and use different symbols than Google. To switch from Google to this server you would need to go look up the symbols used, and change them in Fund Manager.

Depending on what type of investments you're tracking you can choose from several different quote servers. I would suggest going here, and reading more about each one:

Thanks Mark

What are your thoughts on the Canada Stock Watch (3M Historical) not asking for dates.

All the other historical servers do. I read that if it doesn't ask, that means Fund manager doesn't think it has historical data.

Hi John,

That is sort of a unique historical server. It always just retrieves the most recent 3 months, which is all that is available with this server.
Thanks,
Mark

So how does this historical server work then? Does it take the closing prices for the last three months and overwrite everything in Fund Manager for the last three months?
