Finding correct investment symbol for FundManager

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby Paul King » Wed Oct 11, 2017 8:03 pm

I am struggling to correctly apply the investment symbol for a British stock called Get Busy PLC - and specifically how to encode the exchange.
The ticker code is different depending on the online source - I have seen L.GETB and LON.GETB

Fund manager however seems to have its own unique 2 letter method of coding the exchange, with the exchange code following the symbol code - e.g. when an Australian share normally has symbol XYZ.ASX, for Fund Manager this is shortened to XYZ.AX

Taking stabs in the dark, I have tried GETB.LN, GETB.LO, LO.GETB, LN.GETB, LON.GETB, L.GETB - none of which are found by the Yahoo quote server for UK and Ireland.

What is the procedure for translating a stock symbol (and specifically the exchange code part of the symbol) from standard quoted format to FundManager format?

Hi Paul King,

Fund Manager doesn't set this, the quote server you're retrieving from sets it. So, if you're retrieving from Yahoo - UK & Ireland, go to that server with your web browser, and do a search. Once you find what symbol Yahoo is using, record the same in Fund Manager. Here is a link to this server:

https://uk.finance.yahoo.com/

and for reference, we have links to all our supported quote servers here:

I searched for this, and the symbol on Yahoo appears to be:

GETB.L

Yahoo uses the .L suffix for London exchange quotes. Yahoo reports London exchange quotes in pence, but if you record the symbol ending in .L Fund Manager by default converts this to pounds. You can read more about this at the instructions for this server:

Thanks,
Mark

Thanks Mark. A good overview.

For me GETB.L did not work using Yahoo UK & Ireland, but it did work for Goggle Real Time server, with a need to manually add a .01 multiplier to convert pence to pounds
