XLF special dividend

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby hipped1 » Tue Nov 15, 2016 11:18 am

The ETF XLF had a special dividend in September spinning off shares in XLRE, a bit over $4 per share in value distributed.

Yahoo incorrectly shows the transaction as a stock split of 1231/1000 in the history which increases the share balance incorrectly in Fund Manager. If I delete the split, then the historical graph is incorrect from a price standpoint. The price drops by $4 plus in Sept corresponding with the special distribution.

Has anyone found a way to correctly show the historical price chart (without creating a share balance problem?)

Thanks
Mark

Hi Mark,

If you record this $4 per share dividend in XLF, then the "Price + Dist." graph will plot correctly. The regular "Price" graph will show a drop, but that happens when there are distributions, thus the reason for the "Price + Dist." graph.

If you use the Spin-Off wizard, it will record this for you, and create the new XLRE investment.
Thanks,
Mark
