Hi alan,

Yahoo does not have historical prices for exchange rates, which is why we suggest either Quandl or importing from Oanda. You can get current exchange rates on Yahoo, but not historical. We have some instructions for getting historical exchange rates here:

HI Looked into it after free trial Oanda is 300 dollars a month Quandl cannot find rates except vs USD If I update quotes every day with yahoo are these exchange rates then stored in the prices database of FM? so if a do a report it will give the correct exchange rate on the date chosen? eg report for 1st July will exchange rate be correct ?

Thanks

Hi alan,

Interesting, it is news to me that Oanda charges for downloading now. It didn't used to be that way. Yes, if you download every day there is no need for retrieving historical exchange rates, as it is stored in your Fund Manager exchange rate investment. You would only need historical exchange rates if you need to set up a new rate and want back dated data, or if you miss retrieving for a few days, and want to fill in the gaps.

Quandl seems to have more than just exchange rates to the USD. Are you looking in their "BOE" or "Bank Of England Official Statistics" database? For example, they have Japanese Yen to Euro under their symbol of:

BOE/XUDLBK63
Thanks,
Mark

Even quandl premium will need a subscription
Could use trial of each after that will need to pay for both!

Hi alan,

Quandl does not require a premium subscription. You can use the free databases they offer. Only if you want access to their premium databases would you need a subscription. The Bank of England database I mentioned is one they offer for free.

Hi,

Historical quotes for currencies can be downloaded on the WSJ website. (see also: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3533)

Hi Djobydjoba,

Thanks for the reminder, that is a good source. I've just updated our FAQ on how you can get historical exchange rates to include this site.
