Manually override historical price

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby mli2001 » Tue Jan 19, 2016 9:20 am

Hi Mark
I recently imported a lot of historical transactions. They were not done in chronological order. As a result, the prices are screwed up by the split (2-1), that some historical periods are showing prices that are half of what it should be, whereas some periods are showing the correct price. The monthly returns showed large swings because of this.
I tried to manually input prices, however, the manual input does not resolve this, as the prices for certain dates are always divided by 2, regardless of what I put in.
Is there a way to fix this, aside from re-importing everything again?
I am using the personal 2014 version.
Many thanks
Morris

Hi Morris,

It doesn't matter what order you enter transactions/prices. They don't have to be entered in chronological order. The important thing is that everything is entered as it happened. Enter transactions as they happened on the transaction date. Do not adjust anything for splits when entering a price or transaction. You record a split transaction on the split date. You might want to use the "View / Split Adjusted" option. When this is on, everything is shown adjusted for any recorded splits, except in the transaction/price dialogs, which always show data as they happened on the transaction/price date.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks Mark.
So, if I were to manually update prices for dates before a 2-1 split, I should put in the pre-split price, i.e. The split-adjusted price times 2.

Hi mli2001,

Yes, that is correct. Record things as they were on the date of the price/transaction you are recording.
Thanks,
Mark
