Retrieve Prices not rounded to two decimal values

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby Glenn Hall » Mon Aug 04, 2008 1:19 pm

Dear Mark,

Fund Manager 8.10

One small problem that I do not find an answer for with the help files.

As prices are downloaded the closing price is rounded to a two decimal place figure, it creates an imbalance of a multiplication by number of shares. The resultant does not agree with the end of the month financial statement and has to be corrected by manually changing the closing price.

An example would be CET on 7/31/08 closing price of $24.70. I have to manually edit this and insert a closing price of $24.6999 to bring it in balance with the statement closing price. I am sure there is a setting that corrects this download problem that I am overlooking.

I find that there is a setting for the number of display decimal places on the graphing of the stock but that is not what I am seeking to do.

Your help would be appreciated.

Hi Glenn,

Fund Manager does not round the retrieved pricing data. It retrieves it, as supplied by the quote server you're retrieving from. I took a look on Yahoo, and it has a price of $24.70 for CET on 7/31/08. This is the price Fund Manager will update your investments with. Where are you getting a price of $24.6999 ?
Thanks,
Mark

Mark,

I am obtaining the $24.6999 price from a downloaded Ameritrade Institutional Statement of 07/01/08 - 07/31/08 that has a Current Price listing of 24.6999. I am then manually editing the closing price to equal that. This in turn brings the Fund Manager into balance with the statement.

I am using the Yahoo (Historical) retrevial and on occasion do find an additional stock that I have to do the editing of additional decimal places to balance Fund Manager with the account statement.

I may be going about this incorrectly but I do not have an accounting background to rely on except for being self taught and using your software.

Hi Glenn,

This sounds fine. I think it is just a matter of Yahoo rounding the price. Fund Manager will retrieve the price as provided by the quote server, and in this case is it $24.70, and not $24.6999. It is fine if you'd like to manually edit this price to 24.6999. The most important item is the share balance. You want that to be exactly correct, and as long as it is correct, your value will always be correct too, assuming you have a correct closing price recorded.
Thanks,
Mark
