japan stock quotes

Hello Mark,
Using Bloomberg, I can generally get Japan quotes when the Japan market is open. When it is closed, it either comes through very, very slowly or it times out.

If I try to use MSN, the Japan quotes do not come through at all.

Any solution? Japan is hot at the moment.

Hi manageruser,

I don't know anything specific about these quotes. I would suggest checking with your web browser at the time when the quotes are coming through slowly or not at all, and see if the same issue exists under a web browser. You might also check another quote server, like Yahoo. Before you try to retrieve in Fund Manager just check with your browser to see if the quote is available, and what symbol that server uses. It works fine in the web browser. I cannot get Japan quotes in Bloomberg and i also cannot get the quotes in MSN. The symbols I use are correct. For example Toyota is 7203:JP under Bloomberg and JP:7203 under MSN. Yahoo doesn't seem to do Japan quotes, except for their Japan server, which you do not have set up for fundmanager.

Are you using the latest version of the quote module (428)? This was just updated today, and fixed Bloomberg. I've just now test retrieved 7203:JP from the Bloomberg server, and it updated okay. Please make sure you have the 428 quote module, and have the symbol entered as 7203:JP.

I wonder, is Yahoo Japan a possibility? Bloomberg can be quite slow at times.

Yes, I think Yahoo Japan is a possibility. It doesn't have a good download interface like the other Yahoo sites though, so it would be one quote at a time like Bloomberg, which means it probably won't be any faster.
