Retrieve transaction error for link portofolios

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby henrikk » Fri Dec 23, 2011 5:54 pm

I have 4 linked portfolios. When I retrieve transactions at the top level --- FM retrieves transactions for the original and linked portfolios. This causes transactions to be retrieved twice. Is there a way to avoid transaction being retrieved for linked portfolios? HS.

Hi HS,

I suspect something else is going on in your sub-portfolio setup. Linked sub-portfolios do not retrieve. Their original target can be set to retrieve, but the link will not retrieve. When/where do you see the duplicates? Do you see the same transaction listed twice in the Preview Transactions dialog?

You might try simplifying your sub-portfolio hierarchy as a test, and try to find the problem. You can try something like this:

Code: Select all
- Sub-Portfolio Parent
  - Retrieve Sub-Portfolio
  - <Link to "Retrieve Sub-Portfolio">

and then retrieve at the "Sub-Portfolio Parent" level. You should see it only retrieve for a single sub-portfolio, as the link should not retrieve. Maybe you have some investments located in non-link sub-portfolios twice?
Thanks,
Mark

Well, something else must be going on. If I have a Portfolio like this:

Master:

Brokerage Houses:
< Actual accounts 1, 2, 3, 4+ >

Retirement:
1) 401k (linked)
2) Roth (linked)
3) SEP (linked)

and all I right click on "Retirement" and "Retrieve Transaction" the system opens the "Retrieve Transactions" window and then if I click on "Next" it will retrieve transactions for all 3 portfolios. All of them are linked.

Are you saying it should not retrieve any transactions in this case?

Hi Henrik,

Thanks for the sample, I now see the problem too. If you select a sub-portfolio for retrieval that contains a linked and the same original sub-portfolio, it is getting retrieved twice. We will get this fixed for the next release, so that it only retrieves once.
Thanks,
Mark
