Modifying transaction type?

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby tedzo » Fri Jun 11, 2010 4:02 pm

I imported some transactions and dividends that were distributed by a stock were recorded by FM as "Purchase" in the CASH account. First off, is that correct? I would have expected the type to "Distributed Dividend" or some such. I figured I would double click the transaction and just modify the transaction type from "Buy" to "Dividend". However, FM won't let me do it. When I double click, I get to choose either "Buy" or "Sell". Is there a way to fix this?

Thanks.

Hi tedzo,

It sounds like you have a default cash account assigned, and the distribution was deposited into your cash account. Take a look at the investment that paid the distribution, and see if you don't see it in there. I'm assuming the dividend was not generated by the cash account, but some other investment? When an investment in your portfolio pays a dividend, the money is deposited into the default cash account with a buy transaction. It sounds like it is already entered correctly. To answer your question though, there is no real easy way to change a buy transaction into a distribution. You would have to delete the buy, and enter a new distribution. Please double check that it isn't already recorded correctly though...
Thanks,
Mark
