Failure to load quote module

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby MattGMT » Fri Jan 09, 2026 11:06 am

Hi Mark,

Firstly, I wish all the team a good 2026!

Now, FM is not allowing me to connect to the quote module and download prices. I have attached a screenshot of the message that appears before anything else is shown on screen.

Once I click the OK button, everything appears as normal except for the downloading of prices. I cannot even connect to FM via the menu option in the 'Help' menu dropdown list!

I haven't changed anything in the software to implement this sudden behaviour, so any pointers you may provide will be most helpful.

Regards,
Matt

Hi Matt,

This will happen if you're not on the current major version (FM 2026) and your license was purchased more than 2 years ago. For more on this, please see this.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark, if it's not already the case, for old versions/licences please consider leaving the possibility to download prices from <local file>. Thanks.

Hi Djobydjoba,

I would have to investigate, but I believe the retrieve from <local file> would also stop working as it is integrated into the quote module. However, you can still update pricing from a file with "File / Import / Prices / Generic..." even when the quote module has expired.
Thanks,
Mark

I am thinking far ahead into the future here, when maybe the software support will not be covered as is it now.

Price retrieval functions are highly integrated into the program and very handy, and can be automated with the "Automatic Retrieve" feature. Price import is a manual process.

The <Local file> is an offline feature, and the one which will guarantee to still be able to use the price retrieval functions in a distant future. The user will just have to collect prices in an external file using its own means (scraping, subscription to an external service) and then use price retrieval in Fund Manager as now. The program will still be fully functional on this regard.

I can understand the reasons for disabling the online features after a certain point in time. But IMO the <Local file> feature, in conjunction with "Automatic Retrieve", should be considered as offline features, and left usable to ensure the program will go through the ages.

Hi Djobydjoba,

I understand your point, and agree. It may take some considerable effort to untangle though. I can try and take a look.
Thanks,
Mark
