Hi alan,
It depends on the details. Which investment(s) did you own prior to this? One or both of them? Which one did you end up with? What exactly happened in the merger? Usually there is some ratio of old to new shares, which you can record by recording a split with this ratio. If what you owned before changed name/symbol/CUSIP, update that as well.
Hi I held both Baloise is gone and the newone is Helvetia baloise but looks like the ticker is the same as was HELN its one for one plus one bonus share They said their would be new symbol HBAN which is on swiss quote but not of Yahoo finance I suppose I should use HBAN as I imagine they will end both BALN and HELN soon too
What do I do now ? alan
Hi alan,
If you have a new number of shares, record a split. So, if you had X shares, and ended up with Y, record a split with a ratio of Y for X. Since you had both, you'll end up with 2 Helvetia baloise investments. Change the name/symbol/CUSIP properties to whatever they are now. If you want to retrieve their price from Yahoo, use the symbol from Yahoo.
