Bad news, quotes can't be retrieved from Morningstar anymore. They have revamped their web sites.
Is a fix possible?
Price retrieval from Morningstar UK not working for me either today.
A fix would be appreciated.
Thanks for the notice, let me take a look...
It appears all of the Morningstar servers aren't working (except Morningstar AU - Funds), and unfortunately won't be fixable for use with Fund Manager. You now need a fully functional web browser to be able to view their quotes online.
For UK funds I am using Financial Times (both sites) for Default and secondary.
In properties - symbol you need the ISIN with the postscript ':GBP' or ':GBX'. The latter is a matter of trial and error or more scientifically look up the ISIN on the FT Funds website. IT is a slow process to change some 50 of so historical securities as well as 'live', but this does work. AN automated version would be even better.
Thanks for the feedback/info.
I'm curious if this site also offers the fund quotes you were used to getting on Morningstar: https://eodhd.com/ We're considering it as a replacement. They seem to cover a wide variety of exchanges, and should be fast/stable because it is API based, so you wouldn't need to change symbols once set up.
Hi Mark,
Interesting. I've tried with several several French / European funds, they're all available on this site. I'll continue testing but seems a good source. But I've noticed something for most of the funds I've tested: the price is not exactly the same as other sources (like FT), there's often a slight price difference. It seems that quite often it is not the "official" price of the fund that is displayed. Examples: As of July 4, for DE0009769869 EODHD: 609.4027 FT: 610.32 Investing: 610,32 As of July 3, for FR0010321802 EODHD: 1951.7035 FT: 1,957.08 Investing: 1.957,080 Boursorama: 1 957,08 As of July 3, for FR0010262436 EODHD: 3047.6658 FT: 3,048.53 Investing: 3.048,530 Boursorama: 3 048,53 And the same for most funds I've tested. It would be interesting to know why this difference. Maye prices for the funds are not the official close prices from the fund firm, but prices from a specific exchange.
Hi Djobydjoba,
Thanks for the help/information. That's great to hear they offer the needed quotes. I believe the difference in prices is somehow due to that "Overview" page not being correct. I don't know why. However, if you use their actual API to get the prices, they do match exactly with the other data sources you mentioned. To use the API to get a price you do need to sign up for at least their free plan, and get an API key. Then, you can access historical pricing with a request like:
which gives: FR0010321802.EUFUND on July 3 of 1957.08 DE0009769869.EUFUND on July 4 of 610.32 FR0010262436.EUFUND on July 3 of 3048.53 This site only offers 20 requests/day for free, but that may be sufficient for some users, and they of course have paid plans with much higher quotas available.
For Funds I've switched to using "Financial Times - Funds (1M Historical)" as suggested by tymieniecki, using ISINs, and don't find a need to add suffixes. Thanks for the tip. I've set FT in each of the funds own Internet Retrieve settings, ignoring the default server (Yahoo, which continues to work well for stocks).
However, I only want to update prices once a week on Saturday by punching the "PRC" button, but Internet Retrieve has downloaded prices, not just for that day, but also for every weekday previously, going back a year, which is unnecessary, and will clog up my hard disk. I can't see what I've done wrong. Is this a result of using the "Historical" server? How do I tell it not to? John
Hi John,
Yes, the "Financial Times - Funds (1M Historical)" updates all daily prices for the past 1 month. There isn't an option to change this when using this server. It shouldn't be going back a whole year, it only goes back 1 month. Are you sure yours is updating for a whole year? If you don't want this, you could also consider using FondsCheck. This also offers many international funds. For example, the case above for DE0009769869 is available on FondsCheck. It has a "secu" value of 8686, and if you want the price from the fund company, use the value of 208 for the exchange. So, the whole symbol in FM would be: 8686;208 To read more details on using FondsCheck, see this.
Quite a few funds on Swissquote too (already in the FM quote servers list)
