Transition to Altruist

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby ASU » Tue Oct 22, 2024 12:55 pm

Our custodian is transition from Pershing to Altruist at the end of the month. I've been uploading info direct files into Fm for years (which is terrible compared to downloading them from the custodian like I do with my Fidelity accounts). I do not see Altruist as an option for downloading transactions and they do not have any sort of importable files that I can see.

Am I missing something? Is access to Altruist something that can happen?

Hi ASU,

I can't find any details on Altruist offering an investment OFX interface for us to add support for. If you have a contact there that would be able to talk to us about this, I'd be glad to talk to someone from there, and see what can be done.
Thanks,
Mark

They have special integrations with Orion and other platforms, but all they can offer me is a CSV file. Email incoming with what it looks like.

Hi ASU,

You could use this with the "Generic" transaction import. It would have to be massaged a bit before import, but it wouldn't be too difficult. I'd suggest creating an Excel file where one sheet contains the original data, and then you map it onto another sheet, that you eventually export to a CSV file which can then be directly imported with the "File / Import / Transactions / Generic..." command. You can see a couple of examples how we've created this Excel template in the past for other common formats here and here.

Once you create the Excel template it makes it easy in the future to go from the downloaded CSV you get from Altruist into a CSV you can directly import into FM.
Thanks,
Mark

If there is any way you can create the sheet like you did for those other custodians that would be great. I'd have to assume there are other people using Altruist. I inherited them after they bought Shareholders Service Group. So far they seem ok except for this issue.

Hi ASU,

We can consider it if there are enough requests...
Thanks,
