Graphs not plotting - possible lack of historical data

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager graphs.

Postby Rix » Wed Jan 13, 2010 10:24 am

Graphs are not displaying properly.
I can see the graph window with the grid lines but am getting a single straight line for all investments and all graph types (including share price.

I have read other messages in the forums and my problem is the same as the one described here:
http://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/foru ... .php?t=347

A screenshot (linked below) shows a share price graph and portfolio with a stock with the symbol ATD.L (Asterand plc) selected.

http://www.zen7609.zen.co.uk/xfm/FMproblem1.png

I have:
1) tried adjusting the scale
2) tried adjusting the date range
3) checked that the historical prices are quoted on the default historical server (Yahoo - UK)
4) checked that the Data Register contains a closing price within my selected Date Range (last 12 months)

You will see that the Data Register only has a three prices (two historical and today's - 13 Jan 2010)

Should the Data Register show ALL prices that are used in the graph?

What else am I doing wrong?

I am running:
Personal Version 10.3
Quote Module 410
Transaction Module 136

Thanks for any assistance.

Hi Rix,

You need to retrieve prices first. The graphs just plot the recorded prices, as you can view in your Data Register. Since you only have 3 prices recorded, that is all that is plotted. Use "Edit / Internet Retrieve / Historical Prices...". If you don't get prices, check to make sure the symbol you have recorded is available on the historical server you're using. You set the servers under "Options / Internet Settings...".
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks for replying.
Yes I clicked both "Retrieve selected prices" and "Retrieve historical prices".

I figured that, if the "Retrieve Historical" function was working correctly, the the Data Register would show all the historical data. Is that correct?

The historical prices for this stock can be seen on the Yahoo Uk-Ireland server here http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/q/hp?s=ATD.L

However, I notice that the Data Register is only showing the "Current" price each time I perform the Retrieve action - see http://www.zen7609.zen.co.uk/xfm/FMproblem2.png

I therefore tried a different server (Google Historical) and the historical data arrived.

See http://www.zen7609.zen.co.uk/xfm/FMproblem3.png

Just a thought but, the IP address for the Yahoo UK and Ireland server is 77.238.190.255. Is FM querying the correct server?

Thanks
Rix

Hi Rix,

The "Yahoo - UK & Ireland" server is not a historical server. You'll only get a current quote when using this server. You can assign any server to be the "Historical" server, but it is intended that you pick one of the historical ones, like "Yahoo (Historical)", otherwise, it is just another current quote server.

All of your prices will be shown in the Data Register, so if you don't see them in there, then they haven't yet been retrieved.
Thanks,
Mark
