Graph Portfolio Value % change doesn't match report

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager graphs.

Postby larryw » Tue Apr 03, 2018 9:28 pm

When I compare the % values on a YTD Portfolio Value to a YTD report the percentage changes aren't the same.

As an example, YTD graph as of 3/30/18 shows about -1.1 but the report for the same time period shows -.9.

When a I compare a Portfolio Gain graph to a report the percentages are about the same.

Any reason the total value would be different?

Hi larryw,

Exactly where are you looking in the graph, and what field/report are you looking at? For example, are you looking in a Portfolio Value graph and looking in the legend, along the top where the yields are, or along the right Y axis? What report type and field are you looking at?
Thanks,
Mark

The report's columns are %gain and %yield (both are the same). The graph is the percentage on the far right of the graph (Y axis).

Hi larryw,

The right Y axis is a straight percent change on whatever is being graphed, so Portfolio Value in this case. Both %Gain and Yield can be different if you have external contributions, withdrawals, or distributions. So, to get a 1:1 comparison, use %Gain-V in a report, which is simply:

(End_value - Beg_value) / Beg_value

which is the same as the right Y axis number. If you are in a Portfolio Performance report, go to "Options / Report Preferences... / Portfolio Performance", and you can turn on %Gain-V. See the online help for equations for the different %Gain fields.
Thanks,
Mark
