Graph Anomaly

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager graphs.

Postby oyz79 » Thu Jun 06, 2013 8:40 pm

I am seeing strange anomalies on a price+distribution graph for a portfolio. There have been no large withdrawals or sells, yet in mid April the graph shows a massive drop (attached). Any ideas on where to look for the root cause?

Hi oyz79,

Probably a split.

Hi oyz79,

Try putting your cursor on that graph to determine the exact date where the drop happens. Then, run an "Investment Transaction" report for that portfolio and date (maybe add 1 day earlier, plus 1 day later), and see if you can't identify any problematic transactions.

Also, does your Portfolio Value graph drop like this on the same date?
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark, Attached is a screenshot of the transactions as well as the portfolio graph. I'm only seeing this issue with this particular portfolio, I have several others that are fine.

Hi oyz79,

I don't see anything wrong with the transactions, but the valuation jumps up/down drastically. It looks like you may have an erroneous price(s) recorded. Try creating a single Portfolio Value report for the dates of 4/4/13 and 4/5/13. Notice you can change the number of dates at the bottom of the Report Settings dialog, so you can have 2 dates on the same report. This should help you identify which investments changed in value drastically on this date. If you don't see it at first, try turning on hidden investments in case that is the problem.
Thanks,
Mark

I think I identified the issue, California Water Services on 4/5 has the same share price and shares (887) which leads to a huge jump in the value for that one stock. However, when I look at the historical transaction list it appears accurate (887 shares bought at 19.74). Any idea how to edit it?

Hi oyz79,

Mouse click on that investment, and it will open in the Data Register. Set the "Data Type" in the upper-right drop-down to "Prices". Select the erroneous price, and choose "Edit...".
Thanks,
Mark
