overplots of mutual funds with djia

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager graphs.

Postby scottnewbie » Sun May 23, 2010 9:48 pm

Hi,

1) I'd like to plot my stocks with major market indices like the djia or the s&p 500. Where do I get the data and how then do I make the plot?

2) how would one get historical data on the price of oil and then make an overplot against the djia?

Thanks,
Scott

Hi Scott,

You can get the historical pricing data on a wide variety of indices from Yahoo (Historical). Just visit their site with your browser to find out the symbol, and then create a new investment. You can look up the symbols here:

http://finance.yahoo.com/indices

You can use any of the overlay style graphs to overlay multiple investments (one being an index), or overlay a whole sub-portfolio with an index. To select the investments to overlay, use "Graphs / Options / Overlaid Investments".

Please also see this FAQ page on tracking/comparing indices:

Thanks,
Mark
