Customized Capital Gains Reports?

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

Postby Heidi » Tue Jan 05, 2010 8:06 am

Hi Mark,

I am trying to create a custom report that allows me to pull up a specific stock and see the gains and/or losses over a specified time period.

When deciding whether or not to file for the numerous litigations that show up over the course of the year, we generally like to see if we made or lost money on a stock before going forward and filing the paperwork.

Is this report even possible?

Thanks,
Heidi

Hi Heidi,

You cannot filter a Capital Gains report to show only a specific investment. It always reports for everything in the sub-portfolio you choose. You could create a new, empty sub-portfolio, copy your investment in there, and run the report on that sub-portfolio. If you have many investments this may not be easy to do.

Another option is to create a Custom report, and use the "Gain (inception)" field, and then filter your report by symbol. You can filter Custom reports. The "Gain (inception)" field is your overall gain/loss, including realized and unrealized gains/loss, as well as any distributions you've received. This also may give you directly what you're looking for a little better, since all the gains/losses are summarized onto a single line item, rather than broken down by transaction.
Thanks,
Mark
