No Data in Capitla Gain Report

I have entered purchases and dividend reinvestments for a stock. When I run the capital gain report no info shows up. The investment performance report contains data. I think I have filled out all the fields correctly for the capital gains report. I must be overlooking something. I would appreciate suggestions.

Hi gcgucken,

The Capital Gains report lists 'sell' transactions, where you realized a gain/loss. If you only input purchases and reinvestments there will be no realized gains/losses. If you did input a sell and still don't see an entry in the Capital Gains report, then check the following:

Date range of report covers the sell transaction date
Investment Properties... / Other / Tax Free
Options / Report Preferences... / Exclude Cash and/or Tax Free Investments

Boy I feel stupid.

What I want is to see the various cost basis figure for my shares over the years. I want to be able to select the share with the highest cost basis to sell now.

What kind of report will tell me this information.

Hi gcgucken,

A good place to find this information is in the "Open Lots" report. This report can be sorted by any field in the report, so you can sort by "Open Value" (cost basis), "Price Gain", or "Value Gain". Create the report, and then use the "Sort" menu to choose which field to sort by. Also, use "Options / Report Preferences... / Open Lots" to control which fields are displayed in the report.
