Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

Postby paulstonge » Fri Jun 19, 2009 1:24 pm

I am getting two different amounts for 1/1/09 through 6/18/09 for an investment. The correct amount is $21,783.52 but the report will display $19,792.94 if the data register entries are in a certain order even with no change to the data. I am emailing the .dat file to you and 4 screen shots that reflect the 2 reports and the 2 data register orders that generate the different amounts on the reports.

Thank you for your help.

Hi paulstonge,

When multiple transactions happen on the same day, the order that the transactions are entered determines which one is considered first/last. So, in this case, you had 2 transfer ins, and 1 redemption all on the same day. Depending on the order these transactions are entered, the remaining cost basis will vary, because the order determines which shares were sold with that redemption (using FIFO here). If you sort by date (as you are doing in those screen shots), the transactions are listed in the order of date and entry, so when the later dates are at the top, the topmost transaction on a given date is the latest one. You can modify this order, by editing any one of the transactions. When you edit a transaction, it moves it to the end of that day.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks for the answer. It would be helpful if we could set the sequence of same day transactions within the data rather than worrying about which transaction was edited (or even just looked at) last. Are you considering a modification to handle that?

Hi paulstonge,

Thanks for the feedback. This isn't something we've looked into changing. How would you like to see this implemented? Maybe a 'time' entry box on a transaction?
Thanks,
Mark

A time entry would be fine or any other designation (another entry box, etc.) that could be used to set the sequence for same date transactions.

Thanks for your consideration.
