Weird distribution amount in Investment Perf. report

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

Postby Djobydjoba » Sun Mar 01, 2020 3:59 am

Hi Mark,

I have a strange figure in the Investment Performance report, date range 01/01/2020 to today, for the cash account investment:

I don't understand where the Distrib. figure comes from. They are no positive distributions in this cash account investment, only account fee. Here are the distributions for the date range:

Any idea?

Edit: it seems it's the addition of the Dist/Shr.. But I don't understand more...

Hi Djobydjoba,

The "Investment Performance" report shows per-share amounts. The "Distrib." column is showing the distributions per share, which you can see in the "Dist/Shr" column in the Data Register. This is a number determined by Fund Manager based on the distribution amount, dates, and the number of shares owned over those dates. When you record a distribution in cash, you enter the date range for the period where that distribution was earned. Think of interest in a cash account, where you may receive interest at the end of a month, that was earned over that whole month.

As far as the amount being positive, what is your share balance in cash? Is it negative?
Thanks,
Mark

My share balance in cash is 0,00 at the report date.

In fact, this is not a real cash account at the broker side. For each account I have, I prefer to use a cash account systematically, as a "transit hub". I charge the fees that can't be associated specifically with another investment in the account to this virtual cash account, so at the end of a transaction the share balance of this cash is always 0,00.

I don't understand the logical: a negative distribution (account fee), but a positive Dist/Sht..

Hi Djobydjoba,

The dist/share is determined by the average share balance over the whole period you enter in the dialog. The report date doesn't affect this. See the 2 dates in the dialog where you edit that distribution.

It is confusing, but if you have a negative distribution on a negative share balance, you'll get a positive dist/share.
Thanks,
Mark
