Comparing long-term holdings

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

Postby Mary Kennedy » Tue Feb 26, 2019 10:42 am

My stock portfolio includes things I bought last month and things I bought 20 years ago. I've been trying to devise a report that tells what each has earned but I'd like to take time-owned into consideration. Right now I have a column for date of inception, and one for total gain (I am using Gain-C (end)) and one for total dividends received (Dist-C (end).

What I would like to do is create a total time owned variable (today's date minus inception date) and a total gain (Gain-C plus Dist-C) and then divide the gain by time so I can say, eg, this stock has returned $X.00 per year.

Is this feasible? Is Anything close to it feasible?

Hi Mary Kennedy,

This is the ROI Yield. It is both a time and money weighted measure of performance. You can calculate the ROI yield for any object, and for any time period. It is available in the Custom report, among other places. By default, ROI yields for periods longer than 1 year are average annualized. Periods less than 1 year are not.
Thanks,
Mark
