Investments with zero balances

Even with settings to exclude investments with zero balances they are included when viewing hidden investments. Intuitively, when you elect to exclude zero balance investment by any any date or date range they should not show up on the report. That does not happen with my install.

Any thoughts?

Hi Mike,

The option "View / Hidden Investments" turns on the display of all investments, including investments marked with the hidden attribute, and investments with a zero share balance. If you turn off "View / Hidden Investments" do your zero share balance investments get hidden properly?

I believe that is the case. I suspected that the view hidden investment option over rode other options. Sometimes you want a report that includes sold investments but not other zero balance investments not owned at the end date or the between dates. That does not seem to be possible. To do that you have to view hidden (sold) investments regardless of date.

Hi Mike,

The idea with "View / Hidden Investments" is when you turn this on, you will be guaranteed to always see all investments. If you want more control over what investments are displayed/hidden, leave this option off, and just hide the investments you don't want to see. You have complete control over which investments are marked as hidden, as each investment has its own hidden attribute. You can also use the "File / File Operations / Hide Sold Investments..." menu command to automatically mark all 'sold' investments as hidden for any desired date range.
