TWR log file

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

Postby flight » Thu Nov 23, 2017 8:02 pm

Mark,

Just a quick question or two on TWR log files:

1) when I open the log file, it appears to bring in different dates versus the dates ran on the TWR report?

2) when I open the log file, it appears to show ever position throughout history of the account. Is there anyway just to see the relevant positions?

thanks

Hi flight,

Sorry I missed your initial post.

1) This log is cumulative, so it keeps growing/appending. For the latest calculations, look towards the bottom of the log file.

2) It shows all TWR calculations, anywhere in the program. You can clear it out, and then make some change to your report in question, so only that report is re-calculated, and you'll see the data from just that one report. Make sure you don't have a bunch of report windows open, all calculating TWR, as that will make it difficult to find the calculations in question.
Thanks,
Mark

Mark,

By clear it out, do you mean delete it?

Hi flight,

Yes, you could either delete the file, or while it is open, select all the text, delete the text, and re-save the file, as an empty file. Either way would work to clear the log file.
Thanks,
Mark

Mark,

Regarding question # 2 (when I open the log file, it appears to show ever position throughout history of the account. Is there anyway just to see the relevant positions?), every cash flow or calculation period seems to have every investment ever owned.

it makes it difficult to reconcile and review?

for instance, I'm looking at performance calculations for 2010, and in the particular period, I see holdings I bought in 2016 (and every other year), yet they are irrelevant to my 2009 performance:

here's an example: the 2009 cash flow period shows a call option I sold in Dec of 2017. It's strange and a lot of "noise" to scroll through.

Cash Flow Period: 7/29/2009 - 9/10/2009 BMVi: 76409.680000 EMVi: 85390.105000 Yieldi: 11.75 Yield: 72.31
REV 15DEC17 25.0 C Market Value: 0.00

Is there anyway just to see this information:

Cash Flow Period: 2/25/2009 - 5/ 8/2009 BMVi: 42452.180000 EMVi: 62445.750000 Yieldi: 47.10 Yield: 38.79

Hi flight,

No, there are no options for controlling the format of the yield log file. It is more intended as a debug tool to see every detail of the calculations. It isn't something you should need to sort through generally. Is there some reason you're needing to go through the log file?
Thanks,
Mark

Yes, I use the log file to audit/check performance numbers, when something seems off.

Transfers, Exchange Offers, etc.

Can be problematic if you're not carefully on how they are recorded in FM.
