Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

Postby jboz1302 » Tue Nov 27, 2007 9:32 am

Hello:
We are currently evaluating the FundMgr software and are in need of a report that would show what's currently left open BY SECURITY as opposed to the summarized report that is currently packaged. (I think it's sometimes referred to as a "tax lots" report) Is that something that will eventually become available with the software?
Thanks!

Hi Jim,

You can do this now. Just 'hide' all your sold investments, and what is remaining will be listed in any report you create. To hide your sold investments, use "File / File Operations / Hide Sold Investments...". You can control whether or not hidden investments are displayed using "View / Hidden Investments".

This will allow you to see how many shares of each security you still own. If you want to see a breakdown by transaction, this isn't currently available in the reports. Maybe this is what you were looking for? If so, I do think this will be a good addition in a future version.
Thanks,
Mark

So... first, I'm not an FM employee, just a user.

Let's take this one step at a time:
- To establish tax lots, you need to ensure that any position that either a) has any sales or b) isn't completely liquidated is managed by lot, not by average cost.

To specify shares/lots, go to the portfolio browser window, right click on an investment, go to Investment Data, then Specify Lots. You can use FIFO, AVG, etc., or do your own mix'n'matching.

Once that's done, (this may satisfy your goal, by the way, in itself) you'll see a mini-report on the side of that window that contains the remaining lots by purchase date.

After you've got your whole tax situation sorted out, you can view capital gains, unrealized gains, etc. data by going to the packaged (or custom) reports. There doesn't seem to be an easy way just to list out open lots for each position in a portfolio... maybe that's in the works.

But the functionality is there.

Hope that helps!
