Possible round-off issue in Open Lots report?

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

Postby DKonigsbach » Sun Feb 19, 2017 5:26 pm

Hi, Mark!

I have some examples where the Tax Basis value in the Open Lots report isn't exactly equal to the Value dollar amount of the transaction. It has the appearance of some sort of round-off issue - the discrepancy begins in the third or fourth decimal place. I'm finding it only in older transactions.

I'd be happy to send you anything you'd find useful. Just let me know what to package up.

Thanks, and all the best,
Dan Konigsbach

Hi Dan,

How are you seeing the third or fourth digit for values? Value based fields only display to 0 or 2 digits? Are you maybe looking at some other field, like a price? Maybe you can email me a screen shot?
Thanks,
Mark

Sure! I sent the screen shots in an email to <redacted>.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can do.

Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan,

Did your email send okay? The email address you used was correct, but I don't see the email. I've just sent you an email, so maybe you can reply to that with the attachment.

(I edited your post to remove our email address. Posted email addresses tend to get on harvested spam lists.)
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Dan,

I received the screen shots by email, thanks. I suspect the issue is that you have some account fees, and are including those in your basis. I saw some "Account Fee" type distributions recorded. The "Tax Basis" is not necessarily the same as "Open Value", as the basis can be adjusted by Return of Capital and optionally Account Fees. Try turning off "Options / Report Preferences... / Capital Gains / Include Account Fees in Basis".
Thanks,
Mark
