lumped tax lots

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

Hello,
Is there a way to show holdings of the same security (equities in my case) with many tax lots and different costs/purchase dates as one holding with one average total cost?

Hi lvs,

Yes. You would record all of your transactions into a single investment. Each investment can have unlimited transactions (buys, sells, distributions, etc...). You can then report on this investment, and choose a field like "OOP basis per share (current)". This field gives your average out of pocket (OOP) cost for all shares owned on the ending report date.
Thanks,
Mark

You can then report on this investment

Will I be able to report on the entire portfolio with each investment shown as only one line?

Yes. You would just "List By" "Investment", which is the default. For some samples, see some report screen shots:

or download the evaluation version and try it out.

Mark,
I tried what you have suggested, but that is not what I am trying to accomplish.
My investments go back to 1989 and entering all buys and sells for them is a lot of work. I thought I could just deliver them into the portfolio "in-kind" with their cost and date of purchase for each tax lot and then run a report that would show me my holdings per security and not per tax lot.
So when using the new portfolio wizard, I am entering each tax lot as a new investment - this way my cost information is preserved; as a result, all my tax lots show up separately on the portfolio value report.
Is there any way to consolidate my tax lots on reports?
Am I doing something wrong?

Hi lvs,

You do not want to record them this way in the New Portfolio Wizard. Each entry there creates a new "investment". You want to put all transactions within the same investment in a single investment, instead of having 1 investment per transaction. It sounds like you are manually entering all of this, so please see the "Getting Started" tutorial, and click on "Manually Entering Historical Transactions". The tutorial is here:
