Hiding Sold Investments

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

Postby SDS » Mon Feb 25, 2008 11:58 pm

Mark,

I'm confused about how the 'Hide Sold Investments' function works for reports. Despite placing a date range for a report, the investments that I wish to hide still appear in the reports even though they've been sold months or years before. I'd don't recall ever having this problem with previous versions of FM and wonder if there is some bug because I CANNOT make investments NOT OWNED during a particular period disappear from reports, now.

Thank you for any help.

Hi SDS,

The date range you would enter into the "Hide Sold Investments" dialog is the same as the date range of your report. Also, make sure to check 'Un-Hide Non-Sold Investments" in this dialog. Finally, make sure "View / Hidden Investments/Portfolios" is turned off, so that you aren't displaying hidden investments in your report.

This is a pretty common question, so I just put together a new FAQ item you might like to read:

How do I hide investments I've sold?
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks, Mark. I followed your instructions and got the report details required.

Mark,

I used to have all closed investments hidden, but did something
to unhide them. Now, I cannot get rid of them from my reports.
I have followed your advice here and in the FAQ, but they seem
to have no effect on the report -- all the zero balance investments
are displayed even though the "Hidden" property is set in the
"Other" tab.

I do not set any date ranges for the reports. I just choose a single
date. I would like to see the portfolio with only the non-zero share
investments on that date.

Also, I am confused about the the View/Hidden Investment/Portfolio
menu item. It hides the entire portfolio. How does one use it to just
hide investments.

thanks

Mark,

I solved the problem.

The trick was to first create the report and *then* use
the hide the zero balance ones with the "View/Hidden Investments/Portfolio"
menu item. It also removes the *.dat files of the investments from the
portfolio editor -- as it used to be before I monkeyed with stuff.

thanks

Hi sj,

Glad you got things back the way you wanted. Just a clarification on how the "View / Hidden Investments/Portfolios" option works. If this menu item is checked, all hidden investments and sub-portfolios will be displayed, even though they are marked as hidden. Only when this menu item is un-checked will hidden items be removed from graphs, reports, and the Portfolio Editor. There is no requirement on the order of creating graphs/reports. You can toggle this option on/off at any time.
Thanks,
Mark
