Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

Want to use beginning valuations before the default date. (3 months earlier). Would like to have share and price data for 12/31/2009.
Have retrieved historical data, but only prices. The custodian's data does go back as much as 24 months. Why can't I get share amounts as well as prices?

Hi DT,
You can show any data for any date you want. For example, if you want to know the valuation, shares, and price on 12/31/2009, create a Portfolio Value report. When you create a report the "Report Settings" dialog allows you to enter in the desired dates. In this case, enter in a date of 12/31/2009, and your report date will show data for that date.
You may be looking in the Portfolio Editor window? In that window, all data is shown for the current date. Just use a report to view data for any date you want.

Mark: Thank you for your response, but I still do not get share amounts. I get only prices. I need the share amounts to determine the value of the portfolio on 12/31/2009. Do I have to insert them manually?

Hi DT,
Share amounts are determined, based on your recorded transactions. For example, if you record a buy of 1,000 shares on 1/1/09, and then create a report on 12/31/09, it will report you own 1,000 shares. You don't enter how many shares you own on a particular date, you just enter your transactions as they happen, and FM calculates how many shares you own, based on these transactions. One place to view, enter, and edit your transactions is in the Data Register (Edit / All Data...). In this dialog, set the "Data Type" to "Investments (alll)". It will list all your transactions. Click "New..." to create a new transaction, or select one of the existing ones, and choose "Edit..." or "Delete". You may want to watch the tutorial on using the Data Register:

Mark: The information goes back only to 6/17/2010. I want all data back to 12/31/2009.

Hi DT,
You can import or manually enter data as far back as you want. Did you retrieve this account from your broker? If so, they may have only made data available for a few months.

I think you answered my question. Thanks, Mark.
I will have to manually record share amounts. Had hoped to avoid this.
