Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

Hi Mark, When more than one date range is specified in the Report Settings window, the result is a report with all the columns repeated for all date ranges (except for the first column, generally the investment name). But some columns don't have to be repeated, as they always contain the same data whatever the date range, and the repetition leads to a report with a lot of redundant and unnecessary information, and not easy to read. In particular, this can be the case with custom reports. As an example: A custom report to monitor and compare the %Gain-F for two date ranges: the last 5 days and the last 15 days. Useful to see where the momentum is for the very short term (5 days) and the short term (15 days). The fields I want to include in the report: %Gain-F (between) Latest Price Date Asset Type Share Price (ending) Price Trend Historical Price Count (between) A screenshot of the report (with the option "Order Columns by date" selected in the Report Settings): http://img4.hostingpics.net/pics/201192 ... 5h0801.pngThe fields Latest Price Date, Asset Type, and Price Trend are unnecessary repeated, the same information appear for each date range. The result is a cumbersome report. In fact, I prefer to create two reports with one date range in each than to have to read this one. But with two reports the ability is lost to compare easily the two %Gain-F% values for each date range. A mockup of the desired report: http://img4.hostingpics.net/pics/744700Sanstitre.pngThe fields with information that don't change with date ranges are gathered on the left and not repeated. (Mistake: The End Nav column should not have been on the left part, but in the date ranges part). The report is much more readable (at least, I think so), and figures from different date ranges can be compared much more easily. Easier to understand and to use. I think this would imply a mechanism to point out the fields to gather on the left (not to be repeated), and the fields to show for each date range. Perhaps this choice could be made manually by the user in the report settings, or perhaps "automagically" by Fund Manager (the program "knows" the fields to gather on the left and the fields that change according to the date range)? Thanks.

Hi Djobydjoba,
Thanks for the idea. I understand, and agree that would be better. I would prefer the method where Fund Manager automatically determines which fields are date range dependent, and which are not.

Hi Mark,
I'm sure there are more than enough of suggestions/requests to deal with. Neverthess, I bring this quite old request to front, for consideration.
Thanks.

Hi Mark, I'm going to use much more the reports of FM, to manage my holdings and analyze markets. I was quite focused on graphs and the Portfolio Editor until now. I think custom reports will be my playground in the coming months I am still excited about this program, which is so open in the way we can manage things. Every week I have new ideas for improving my processes and the program's flexibility, rich feature set and stability are remarkable. That, plus your listening to requests for improvements, that is great. Anyway. I'm bringing up this request for custom reports. Here's just an example of a custom report, I use it to track investment performance over several date ranges.

The problem is that when adding fields like sector, goal, currency, etc., they are added for each date range instead of just once:

Because all these fields defined in the investment properties are fixed and do not change regardless of the date range, there is no reason for them to appear more than once. For now I uncheck "Order Columns by date" to make the result more readable (otherwise it's unbearable), but still that's really not great.

That would be great if this could be improved that way: https://i.ibb.co/4wNXN54n/20251011-sam-14h32-01.pngTo make the most of the custom reports, this is an improvement that I very much hope for, and it is at the top of my wish-list for a next version. Thanks for your tremendous work.

Thanks. Seems quite obvious, but... two more screenshots with the "Order columns by date" option checked and unchecked. So the option would be applied only to the fields in the date range section.

"Order columns by date" checked:

- 20251018-sam.18h11-01.png (10.89 KiB) Viewed 156 times
"Order columns by date" unchecked:

- 20251018-sam.18h12-01.png (9.14 KiB) Viewed 156 times
When unchecked, a field separator / field grouping is missing. This really makes it harder and more painful to read. Suggestion:

Of course all the field labels would not be aligned horizontally anymore. But is it a problem? Because the reading is much better... Otherwise, have to find another way to separate. like this for example (even if I prefer the first one)

Hi Mark, IMO, when the Currency column is displayed on the report, that shows native and displayed currency, it is not necessary to add again the native currency at the end of the investment's names when Echange Rate Adjusted is off.
