Editing Rebalance Allocation Targets in FM 2026.19.1

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

Postby OneEyedMan » Sun Oct 05, 2025 9:09 am

Hi Mark
I recently updated to FM 2026, and all seemed to be well until I attempted to rebalance my portfolios.

In the Rebalance Report Settings, my original set of Allocation Targets were longer accessible in the dropdown list on the right of the settings page. I had previously customised these using labels that better-suited my needs as a private investor in the UK. I did this by editing some of the ‘Unused’ labels in the Asset Type list.

As the old Allocation Targets seemed to be missing, I attempted to rebuild them using <Edit Allocation Targets> /New, but, while I could enter new percentages for each Asset Type, I couldn’t work out how to change the ‘Unused’ name labels. If I could do this, I think rebuilding the targets should be straightforward.

I haven’t seen the issue raised by any other users in the forum recently, so I feel I must be overlooking something obvious here!

Please can you point me in the right direction?

Kind regards
Martin

Hi Martin,

You can customize the category labels at:

Options / Category Labels...

It sounds like somehow you lost your preferences, which are stored in the registry. Did you maybe uninstall the program at some point? That would cause you to lose registry preferences. You can restore registry preferences from a backup. FM makes automatic backups. See:

Options / General Preferences... / Data

for where your automatic backups are stored. You can use "File / Restore..." to pick a recent *.FMB backup file (before this problem started), and choose the option to restore "Global Preferences" and "Restore Selected Items(s) Only", so you only restore the preferences, leaving your data un-changed.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark

Thanks very much for sorting the problem out so promptly. Yes - I suspect the program may have uninstalled during a computer upgrade from Windows 10 to 11 at around the same time as I updated FM. I was able to reload my old FM settings successfully from a back up, as you suggested.

Your support service really is second to none! It's very much appreciated - thanks again!

Best wishes
Martin

I wish I could add some columns to the Rebalance Report. I can't seem to duplicate it since I can't find a column or two that exists in the library report but doesn't seem to show up in my fields list when doing custom reports. Maybe I don't know what to call the field names?

Thanks.

Hi AssetHound,

There are a variety of columns you can choose for this report at:

Options / Report Preferences... / Rebalance

Hopefully you can find all the ones you need from that list. If not, please let me know what you'd like to see added.
Thanks,
Mark
