Capital Gains report missing LT Cap Gain?

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

Postby jstolzen » Sat Jun 15, 2019 5:04 am

Hi, Mark. I have a fund (ACINX) that paid a LT Cap Gain and a Dividend recently, and for whatever reason the reinvested LT Cap Gain is not showing in the Capital Gains report (any time period that includes the date the LTCG was paid). Cap Gains for other investments are, however, showing as expected.

I double-checked to make sure the investment was not marked Tax-Free or Hidden.

Any ideas why this might be happening?

Thx -

J

Hello J,

It sounds like you have a LT Cap Gain "Distribution" recorded. This is a distribution (of type Long Term Capital Gain), and is not the same as a capital gain you directly realized. Only items that you sold will show up in the Capital Gains report. For example, if you buy and then sell something, it will show up in the Capital Gains report. If you received a distribution of this type it will not be in the Capital Gains report, but you can find it in the Distribution Summary report.
Thanks,
Mark

Ah - OK..I suspected that might be the case and it was indeed a re-invested LTCG..good to know, and thanks for the clarification.
