Associate Sub Portfolio in Client List

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

I am trying to batch print for a number of clients. The option to associate a sub portfolio to each client is not active in the client list dialog. I have eight clients in one master portfolio. In the batch print window there are no clients to select from.

Hello steve at SFI,

You associate a client with a sub-portfolio in the "Client Information" dialog. From the Client List (Edit / Client List...) select a client, and choose "Edit...". This will bring up the Client Information dialog, where you can choose a sub-portfolio for this client in the "Associated Portfolio" section. Once you've assigned an associated sub-portfolio for your clients you will see them listed in the Batch Print dialog.
Thanks,
Mark

I have tried that. The drop down item in the edit client list is not active and I cannot make a change.

Hi steve at SFI,

Do you mean the drop-down selection in the "Client Information" dialog is not active? If so, click on the "Browse..." button under the "Portfolio File" selection, and browse to your current portfolio file (*.mm4) and select it.

If you don't know what the path to your portfolio file is, right mouse click on any sub-portfolio in the Portfolio Editor, and choose "Properties...". The "Filename" will show the full path and filename of your current *.mm4 portfolio file.

Once you've selected your current portfolio file the option to choose a sub-portfolio will become enabled.
Thanks,
Mark

I figured it out. I had associated the clients to the wrong master portfolio. Once I associated them to the right mm4 file the sub portfolio box was working.

I should only have one mm4 file correct?

In designing the structure, I started over and ended up with 2 mm4 files.

Hi steve at SFI,

Yes, usually it is only necessary to have 1 mm4 portfolio file.

Long ago, before Fund Manager supported sub-portfolios, it was not uncommon to have multiple mm4 files, but since the addition of sub-portfolios it is easiest to usually just have a single mm4 file.
Thanks,
Mark
