Max Investments

I've enjoyed the personal software since early 7.x days. I really appreciated the bump in max investments a few years ago. Is there any chance of another small bump for the personal edition in the future? I don't need any of the extra features, and I like to keep all investments under one master portfolio. Afraid I may be up against the limit in the future. Is there a quick way to see how many are currently being used? Do hidden or zero balance investments count toward the total? Thanks for the great the software.
Boy am I with you! I will be up against the 500 limit early next year and cannot justify the added cost of Professional. Would like to keep the history but will purge it to avoid the cost of going to Professional. Would be nice to have a larger limit in Personal even if I have to pay a little more to get a “Personal Plus”.
Upgraded to 10.1 last night. Amazing what you can find if you look. Found quantity of investments in properties section of main portfolio, so I have all my answers there. Still would be nice to avoid upgrade to pro, anybody have strategies that have worked for them?
Hi deigo and JFM,
Thanks for the feedback. We don't have any near term plans to increase the Personal limit. Yes, any hidden and/or zero share balance investments count. Any "open" investment counts. Each investment can have an unlimited number of transactions, so if you are buying/selling the same security multiple times, just enter your new transactions in the existing investment, instead of creating a new investment. I'm guessing you are already doing this, but just wanted to make sure.
Good idea for that might push off the decision to go Professional! However how do I
1) combine historical data in one DAT file with another DAT file with a different name given that both DAT files are for the same stock but were initiated at different times? 2) learn what DAT files are in which portfolio for I have several MM4 files and the resulting DAT files in my Fund Manager data folder? I would assume that I can’t combine DAT files across MM4s and I can’t have the same DAT for different sub portfolios within a single MM4 file??? Thanks for the help.
Hi JFM,
If you have the same investment from multiple accounts you generally want to keep those in separate investments, so you have separate transaction histories. However, if you already have multiple investments for the same security in a single account, you can combine them by copying/pasting your transactions from one into the other, and then closing the first one. Use the Data Register to copy/paste your transactions. You can copy all of them at once. See this in the tutorial here: http://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/tuto ... video.html You can turn on "Location" and "Filename" in the Portfolio Editor using "View / List Columns...". This will show you the details on each investment in each sub-portfolio. Generally you just need a single .MM4 file, and use sub-portfolios to track all your accounts. This makes it the easiest to maintain/track your investments. If you want to combine your multiple MM4 portfolio files into a single one, watch our tutorial on how to do this here: http://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/tuto ... video.html You can have the same investment file located in as many sub-portfolios and portfolio files as you want. If you have it in more than one location, it will be the same everywhere, so no matter where you make changes in it, those changes will be reflected wherever it is located.
