I am using FM 9.7 Personal. I am trying to download my portfolio and transactions from Scottrade. Midway through the download I get the error message: "The maximum number of investments are currently open". I have been using the Scottrade account for a number of years and have had perhaps 1000 or more investments. Only about 90 investments are currently open however. I am assuming that FM tries to obtain all investments, both open and closed, together with their related transactions and this is causing this error. Is there any way to just download my current open investments and their transactions?
Hi alanwnash,
It sounds like you are at the 500 investment limit in the Personal version. This 500 count includes any investments you have hidden that you no longer own. To find out how many investments you are at now, right mouse click on your top level sub-portfolio (usually called "Master Portfolio") and look at "Properties...". It will show you how many investments it contains. If you want FM to only download recent transactions, choose the option to specify a date range, instead of "All Dates". If you hit the 500 limit, you have a few options: 1) Close some old investments. Closing an investment removes it from your portfolio. It will not be included in any historical calculations. Generally this isn't a good idea because of this reason. 2) If you have a natural way of breaking apart your portfolio you could break it into multiple *.mm4 files. Maybe one for all retirement accounts and another for non-retirement for example. The downside to this is now you have to manage 2 independent files, and you can't see a summary of everything combined. 3) Upgrade to the Professional version, where the investment limit is increased to 2,000. (Advisor is 50,000).
Still can't get my transactions. Downloaded Professional version - new 10.0 version. About 800 positions downloaded but it shows all at zero share positions. Tried several times with different account names - no improvement. Reconcile didn't work either. Reported on all positions that the broker also showed zero positions on everything.
Hi alanwnash,
How are you downloading positions? Are you using the New Portfolio Wizard, and choosing the option to retrieve positions only? Can you give me the exact commands you're using, and where you are viewing your share balances? If you'd like, you can also call us up, and we can do a quick web conference to get it straightened out.
