Hi!
I can tell you what I do, so that you can consider the possibility:
I have no tax software at all. I have an accountant who prepares my tax returns once a year on the basis of data I mail him (much of it in the form of Fund Manager reports). Not a walk-in tax preparer, but a real professional accountant who has been working with me for years.
It costs me MUCH more than a tax program would, but it is a great convenience, it gives me the right to pro-actively ask him questions once in a while, even if they're not directly tax related, and I think that I can trust him to help me and hold my hand if I ever get seriously investigated by the IRS. He has also made decisions for me, about what method to use for certain computations, which I would not have easily been able to decide myself.
Unless your tax situation is extremely simple, you might want to consider this admittedly expensive option.
Thanks.
D.
