Investments labeled as a Nero (!!!) file ikon rather than FM

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby L Larson » Thu Sep 17, 2009 7:35 am

The subject question is in a good number but not all my investments. Somehow in the course of things or a foggy night, could I have instructed Nero to recognized DAT files GLOBALLY as Nero files??????? i.e. I have DATS in other programs that list Nero as the opening program.
Its beyond wierd but have no way to fix these? And FYI I am still in the dark ages using FM 7.0.

It appears that if I upgraded to a higher FM ver, the data is backwards compatible with 7.0? If so, far better than QUICKEN and its Thou Shalt do this or else....

TIA per usual, and your replies seem to be right on per always!!!!

Hi Lars,

It sounds like you have "associated" *.DAT files with Nero. This really doesn't hurt anything, and you can still open *.DAT files in Fund Manager fine. It just controls what happens if you were to double click on a *.DAT file, and what icon is shown for it in Windows.

You are correct that in newer versions of FM you can reset this association. See "Options / General Preferences / Other / File Types To Associate With Fund Manager".

Yes, the current versions of FM are backward compatible. They can read data created with any prior version of FM.
Thanks,
Mark
