Vanguard Reconcile Issue

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby Tnblade » Mon Nov 24, 2025 6:09 pm

I was able to download the quicken file from the vanguard site and download it into FM' however, the data was not correct.

When I tried to reconcile using the instructions, it never reconciles and the finish button is not highlighted. My only option is to skip and go to the next portfolio but none of them reconcile.

Any suggestions?

Hi Tnblade,

1) In the Reconciliation Wizard are you choosing ""Open Financial Exchange File (*.OFX, *.QFX)" for the "Reconciliation Statement Source"?

2) After you browse to your QFX file, and choose "Next" you should see some "Statistics". How many of each of these do you see?

- Balanced Investments
- Un-Balanced Investments

Before you can "Finish" the reconcile all investments must have the correct share balance. If the share balance is wrong, edit that investment in the Data Register and see what is wrong/missing.

We also have a Tutorial on Reconciling that may help.
Thanks,
Mark

Thank you. I believe I got it, but it was painful. I had not reconciled for a long time, so I had to make some made up adjustments (buys and sells) to get things to reconcile. Probably not the best way but it seemed to work and all I'm interested in is the total balance by fund in each portfolio.

Is there a planned fix for Vanguard to make reconciling easier or is just the way it's going to be in the future.

Thanks so much again.

Hi Tnblade,

Glad you got it balanced. Your method is fine if all you're concerned about is current balances.

Unfortunately, Vanguard has blocked all access to their OFX server, except for a handful of large companies, and we aren't one of them, so we don't have access anymore. This means downloading a QFX file from their website is the next best option for getting your data into Fund Manager.
Thanks,
Mark
