Transfer between brokers

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby rmiz » Sun Apr 06, 2025 1:22 pm

I need to transfer several stocks from one broker to another. I tried using the transfer between function. It appears that I need to create a new investment in the new brokerage account before making the transfer.
When I try to create a new investment, the function wants me to enter the number of shares and $ value. Can I create a new investment without entering share and dollar amount? If not, can the values ($amt /shrs) be deleted after making the transfer without creating a sales transaction?

Hi Regis,

If you want to transfer whole investments, one easy option is to simply move the whole investment. You can do this with drag/drop in the Portfolio Editor. This moves the complete investment, including all history. It would be like it was never in the original sub-portfolio.

If instead, you want to see that it used to be in sub-portfolio A and moved on a certain date to sub-portfolio B, you can use the "Transfer Between" wizard. You don't need to create a new investment manually before using this wizard. To do this, right mouse click on the source investment, and choose "Investment Data / Transfer Between...". In the dialog that comes up, under "Transfer Destination" choose "<new investment...>" for the "Investment". This will bring up the "New Investment" dialog, and you can just set the "Shares" to 0 in that dialog.
Thanks,
Mark
