2022 Links

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

I am probably missing something but when I try to link to a file on my computer it fails. The link only turns blue for about half of the text and I am told the file can't be found.

When I cut and paste a link from the web it works perfectly even on very long addresses.

I assume that a link to a file would also get one from the cloud. Is that correct?

Thanks

Hi John Lea,

Unfortunately, when using file:// you can't have spaces in the path. So, you could use something like:

file://C:\data\document.txt

but not:

file://C:\data\my document.txt

If your cloud drive is mapped to a local drive letter, and you don't have spaces in the path, then yes, you can open a file from the cloud this way.
Thanks,
Mark

I am on the hunt but I can't get the closing bracket to turn blue. What is the trick for that?

I tried a test file in the cloud and one on my laptop with the same results

Hi John Lea,

You don't put in either of the brackets, that was meant to indicate some variable that you substitute with your path. It should just be something like:

file://C:\Users\ddlea\iCloudDrive\FundManagerFiletest.docx
Thanks,
Mark

Hi John Lea,

I've since learned that you can have spaces in your links if you enclose the whole URL in angled brackets, like this:

<file://C:\data\my document.txt>
Thanks,
Mark
