How to move portfolios within the hierarchy

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby randomfive » Mon Jun 21, 2021 5:25 pm

I have the following portfolio hierarchy:

1. Main folder
2. Kids
a. Kid portfolio 1
b. Kid portfolio 2
3. Retirement
a. IRA 1
b. IRA 2
4. Taxable
a. taxable account 1
b. taxable account 2

I'd like to create a new level (1) folder for my kids and move the "2. kids" under that instead. I cannot figure out how to do this - can you please help?

Thanks!

(the post editor didn't display the hierarchy layout well, so I'll redo it here)

1. Main folder
>>> 2. Kids
>>>>>> a. Kid portfolio 1
>>>>>> b. Kid portfolio 2
>>> 3. Retirement
>>>>>> a. IRA 1
>>>>>> b. IRA 2
>>> 4. Taxable
>>>>>> a. taxable account 1
>>>>>> b. taxable account 2

Hi randomfive,

You can only have 1 subportfolio at the highest level, but you can create as many layers of hierarchy as you want, so it would be something like:

Code: Select all
- Main
  - Kids
    - Kid 1
    - Kid 2
  - Parents
    - Retirement
    - Taxable

So, to make yours into this, you need to add the "Parents" and move Retirement and Taxable into it. Right mouse click on Main and create the new sub-portfolio Parents in there, and then use drag/drop to move the Retirement/Taxable subs into the new Parents. For more detailed help/instructions, see our Using Sub-Portfolios Tutorial.
Thanks,
Mark
