Bitcoin Derivative Purchases/Sells using Bitcoin

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby drdegroff » Sun Sep 08, 2019 6:59 pm

Is there a way to purchase "shares" with "shares?" Here's the scenario:

1. Purchase bitcoin using USD in Account A. OK no problem.

2. Transfer bitcoin between accounts into Account B. OK no problem (blockchain fees are kind of odd as the fees are in bitcoin, but I used "account fees reinvested" with negative shares of bitcoin.)

3. Purchase/sell derivatives of bitcoin (futures and options) using bitcoin itself inside of Account B. This is my hangup and am looking for help with a solution.

Thank you!

Hi drdregof,

Yes, you can pay for any purchase with any other investment. There is nothing special about traditional cash. If you want to pay for a purchase using Bitcoin, just record a sell of Bitcoin for the same value as you spent on your purchase.
Thanks,
Mark
