Fund Manager Sub-Portfolio Tutorial

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Mark,

Unfortunately, i listened to this tutorial after doing some shifting around of sub-portfolios?

What happens if I copy pasted, or dragged investments contained in the subportfolio to a different/new subportfolio? Does that bring along with it all closed investments?

Per the tutorial, I should have done the master folder level.

thanks

I ended up just closing down FM to re-start what I was trying to rearrange from the beginning.

I didnt' save any investments and didn't save any portfolio.

I unchecked 'save investments on exit".

Mark - Does that seem ok to you?

Yes, if you turn off the "Options / Save Investments/Portfolio on Exit" options, and quit without saving when prompted, nothing will be saved. If you don't get prompted, then nothing was changed that needed to be saved.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks Mark, can I ask a follow-up, a heirarchy question:

I have something that looks like this (there are other accounts not shown but just focusing on one)...is this redundant?

Master
Portfolio A
S&P price return
S&P total return
Education/529
ESA
529

could it be:

Master
Portfolio A
ESA
529
S&P price return
S&P total reteurn

Hi flight,

Either way is fine, you just have an extra layer (Education/529) in the first case. That doesn't hurt anything, and gives you the ability to report on those 2 subs beneath it, without also including the other subs in Portfolio A. If you want that ability, leave it, if not, you could remove that layer to simplify. It is really personal needs, either way is fine.
Thanks,
Mark

and should the benchmarks/indices get their own subportfolio/folder?

any advantage for doing that?

For every Portfolio A, B, C, etc....I have two benchmarks.

Ok, I think I need that extra layer, because otherwise Portfolio A is the performance of everything below it, when I really just want a combination of ESA and 529?

Hi flight,

Makes sense. I'm not sure I can tell you how to set it up, because it depends on what you want. You just want to create a sub-portfolio for each account, plus any others for any groupings you want to be able to view, like the group of ESA and 529 combined.
Thanks,
Mark
