Spin-off of shares sold short (Delhaize / Ahold transaction)

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby yesandnotyes » Fri Sep 30, 2016 3:04 pm

I sold short American Depository Receipts of Delhaize (DEG) and on Jul 24, 2016, they merged with Ahold to create Ahold Delhaize. My best understanding is that for every 100 of my Delhaize ADRs that I was short, I would be short 118.75 shares of the new entity.

However, when I attempt to enter the data into the spin-off wizard, I am not allowed to enter a negative number of shares. How exactly am I supposed to record this transaction?

Thanks in advance.

Hi yesandnotyes,

You can record the equivalent, but for short positions by recording transfer in and distributions manually. You can see the details on what gets recorded here:

Thanks,
