Euro Question

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby alanmcf » Sun Aug 17, 2008 12:25 pm

My investments are in dollars except for a bank account in Euros, so my question is how to track the ups and downs of Euros? I have tried to create a NewInvestment with say 10000 shares, todays price of $1.50, the symbol EURUSD=X, and then tried retrieving prices from Yahoo (historical). It seems to do a bunch of retrieving, but nothing appears on the graph but the straight line at $1.50.

Also, is it possible to track a CD investment at say 5% interest?

Thanks again, Alan

Hi Alan,

You would set up your Euro bank account as a cash account, with a fixed price of 1 euro. You would also set up an exchange rate investment to convert from Euros to your default of dollars. You would assign this exchange rate investment under "Options / Currency Settings...". For a tutorial on this, see:

Yahoo (Historical) does not have historical exchange rate pricing. You can get current exchange rate quotes with Yahoo, but not historical. To get historical exchange rates you can download/import from oanda. Please read:

Yes, you can track a CD investment. You don't enter '5%' anywhere, you just record the interest as it is paid to you. Keep the share price fixed at $1, just like a cash account.
Thanks,
Mark
